HOURS OF OPERATION
Beginning September 1, 2020 we will be using an appointment system to serve our clients more effectively.
Please call 613-342-0605 during regular hours to book an appointment to visit the food bank or to request home delivery. The drop it area for bread and other excess items will still be available for daily visits.
- Tuesday through Friday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Intake hours 10:00 am to 2:45 pm.
- 2nd Monday of the month 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
The Brockville and Area Food Bank provides a four to five day supply of food once a month to individuals and families who live in our catchment area. Our area includes Augusta, Front of Yonge and Elizabethtown – Kitley. We place a priority on providing a dignified environment and as high quality food as possible.
Clients can apply at the food bank. You do not need an appointment to apply. You must show ID with your name and address and ID for anyone else who will be sharing your food. Need is assessed on an individual basis — some eligibility/financial criteria apply.
What to Expect
All new and returning clients visiting the food bank will take part in a confidential interview. Personal information regarding income and family needs will be taken at this time. Proof of income and expenses will be required. Returning clients will be asked to update any changes in their address or living arrangements. Financial updates are done at regular intervals and clients will be notified when they are due to bring in their financial statements. After the interview the client will meet with a volunteer who will help them with their food order.
Food Choices
Families and individuals visiting the food bank will be given a shopping list and a number of shopping points based on the number of people in the family. Each person is able to choose items to suit their own needs and personal preferences. Items that are always on hand include: pasta sauce, canned stew, macaroni and cheese dinner, soup, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna or other canned meat, beans, eggs, margarine, bread, cereal, juice, pasta, milk powder (or fresh milk when available), apples, oranges, potatoes, onions, carrots and frozen ground beef.
Other items are available that clients may choose as they wish will vary but often include extra canned goods, baking supplies, puddings, crackers, coffee, tea, sugar, paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, feminine hygiene products, personal care items and household products.
Baby food, diapers and formula are available for families with infants.
Children’s Snack Packs
With funding through the Brockville and Area Community Foundation all children receive a “Fill Me Up” snack pack that contains fresh locally grown apples, cheese strings and yogurt. The snack packs also contain fruit cups, granola bars, juice boxes and other school-friendly items.
